Universal Design for Learning Resources

UDL transforms the classroom learning environment to support all learners by breaking down potential barriers and enriching the experience for all students. Rather than only providing enhancements to students with disabilities, those enhancements and many more are embedded into the class structure to benefit all enrolled students. The following links identify resources to explore this topic more deeply. UDL was used throughout my introductory global history course.

UDL Resource Centers

These centers provide a variety of resources related to UDL.

<PASS-IT Federally-Funded Grant Web Site> PASS IT seeks to address a compelling need in higher education by developing a corps of trainers to facilitate professional development workshops in the implementation of Universal Design (UD) and Universal Instructional Design (UID) in higher education.
<Center for Research on Developmental Education and Urban Literacy> (CRDEUL) published numerous publications related to UDL in college.
<CAST> CAST is a nonprofit research and development organization that works to expand learning opportunities for all individuals through UDL. Founded in 1984, CAST has earned international recognition for its work.
<National Center for Accessible Instructional Materials> Accessible instructional materials, or AIM, are materials that are designed or converted in a way that makes them usable across the widest range of student variability regardless of format (print, digital, graphical, audio, video).
<DO-IT (Disabilities, Opportunities, Internetworking, and Technology)> Center is dedicated to empowering people with disabilities through technology and education. It promotes awareness and accessibility—in both the classroom and the workplace—to maximize the potential of individuals with disabilities.
<Center for Universal Design in Education> (CUDE) develops and collects resources to help educators apply universal design (UD) to make all aspects of the educational experience welcoming to, usable by, and inclusive of everyone.

UDL Books and Training Manuals

These publications provide practical training for implementing UDL and other variations of the model including Universal Instructional Design (UID) among others.

<PASS--IT UDL Book edited by Higbee and Goff> Universal Design promotes the consideration of the needs of all potential users in the planning and development of a space, product, or program—an approach that is equally applicable to architecture or education.
